Moemate: what happened to it, and what works instead
Moemate, the character chat app from Webaverse Inc., has shut down. In March 2025 its address showed a new project called Aether Forge, in May 2025 it showed only a data exporter with a 39-day countdown, and on 24 October 2026 moemate.io had no web address at all. If you are looking for a community character catalog, use a maintained service instead.
Checked on 24 October 2026: whether moemate.io loads from a US connection, its DNS records, app store listings and the Internet Archive's copies of the site from 2024 and 2025. The service is closed, so there was nothing to sign up for or test, and its archived terms pages no longer render.
What happened to Moemate
Moemate was a character chat app from Webaverse Inc. It wound down in 2025. By March 2025 the address showed Aether Forge, a waitlist for a "decentralized AI App Store" from the same company. In May 2025 it showed only a Moemate Exporter page telling users they had 39 days left to export their data. On 24 October 2026 the domain still had name servers but no web address, so nothing loads.
What it was
In October 2024 Moemate offered a search over 50,000 community characters, with tabs for Featured, Famous People, Anime, Roleplay and VTubers, a mobile app and Premium characters behind a subscription. It also had a desktop app with 3D avatars and a module system. The public catalog mixed anime franchise characters, celebrity bots and high-school storylines.
If you had an account
The export window closed in mid-2025, so your chats are no longer retrievable from the site. There is no working page to delete an account. If you subscribed through Google Play or the App Store, check that the subscription is cancelled there, and check your card statement for any renewals.
What works instead
If you liked browsing community characters, pick a service that is still maintained and has clear adult-only rules, such as the three below.
