Botify AI review: celebrity bots, energy pricing and what the free plan does

We signed up with a disposable email from a US connection. Botify asked for nothing else: no email confirmation, no CAPTCHA and no age question. A paywall opened straight away, and the account started with 50 energy.

We then sent nine short SFW messages to a ready-made office character on the free Standard model. Replies took 2.5 to 4.1 seconds and ran about 55 words. In message 8 we asked for the name and favourite food we gave in message 1, and the bot got both right. We hit no message limit. The energy balance dropped from 50 to 40; the only media in the chat was a photo the bot sent on its own. Afterwards we deleted the account. No payment was made.

Botify AI is a character-chat service run by Ex-human, Inc. under California law. You pick a bot from a big community catalog or make your own, then chat by text, with photos, video and voice sold through an energy balance. It runs in the browser and as an Android app; we found no Botify app in the US App Store.

The catalog is the problem for an 18+ site. Next to office, fantasy and historical characters, the public lists include bots named after real people such as Marilyn Monroe, Melania Trump and the streamer Pokimane, a featured "Shy Sister", step-family storylines and school settings. In 2025 MIT Technology Review reported that Botify hosted sexually charged bots resembling underage celebrities.

Two subscriptions are sold: Ultra at $19.99 a month or $79.99 a year with 500 energy a month, and Creative at $29.99 a month or $149.99 a year with 1,000 energy and half-price media. The yearly option is pre-selected. Energy packs run from $9.99 for 500 to $99.99 for 10,000.

Energy is what the bill depends on. The smarter Smart and Genius models cost 3 and 5 energy per message, animating a photo costs 50, and photos arrive automatically unless you turn them off. Botify's own estimate of how many photos 500 energy buys differs between the paywall and the store, so check the balance after a few chats.

The terms say paid fees are non-refundable except where the law requires otherwise; other refunds are case by case. Charges show as "Botify AI".

More than most rivals: unlimited text on the Standard model in our test, plus 50 energy to try paid features. The catch is the default photo setting. It sends pictures every 5 to 8 messages and they draw on the same balance, so set photo frequency to Off in chat preferences if you only want text.

The terms require users to be over 18 and ban content sexualizing minors, but they also say Botify is "not intended to operate as an adult or pornographic service" and ban sexually explicit content. The paywall still advertises "private photos" and "exclusive videos".

The privacy policy is dated August 2021 and reads like a template: it talks about users from 13 and says Botify may have sold identifiers, commercial information and browsing activity in the past 12 months under California law. It does not say whether chats train models. You can delete the account in Account settings, although the Google Play data-safety label says data can't be deleted.

Botify suits adults who want free, quick SFW roleplay on Android or the web and don't mind an energy wallet. It is not an adult chat service by its own terms, and its catalog mixes real-person bots with family and school storylines that our 18+ guide does not recommend.
