Janitor AI review: free roleplay, paid memory

We opened the homepage, the sign-up form and the legal pages on 23 October. The email sign-up asked for a Cloudflare "Verify you are human" check, so we stopped there; a few minutes later Janitor's firewall blocked our IP for the rest of the session. On 24 October the site loaded normally and the janitor+ plans page showed its prices.

Without an account we could not chat, time replies, test memory or try the deletion flow. Everything about the free tier comes from Janitor's help center and plans page.

Janitor AI, run by JanitorAI Inc., is a huge library of community-made roleplay bots with a free in-house model, JLLM. You pick a bot by tag or write your own, and the chat is text only. There is no image generator, voice or video.

Adult roleplay is allowed for adults on the website, as long as the bot is tagged Limitless; the tag does not lift the bans on illegal content. The popular page is broad: original characters sit next to anime and game fandom bots and family-drama scenarios. Signed out, you see only the first page; searching and browsing further needs an account.

The core product is free, and Janitor says it will stay that way. janitor+ is $12.99 a month or $99 a year, which works out to $8.25 a month. It buys five times the context (the free tier stops at about 9k tokens), faster replies when servers are busy, better swipes, more models and a gold username.

If you want outside models such as larger commercial ones, you have two routes. The Router wallet charges per token at each model's listed rate and needs janitor+; credits are non-refundable. Or you plug in your own API key, and that provider bills you directly.

Free means unlimited chats with any public bot on the standard model. The real limit is memory: at about 9k tokens, long stories start to forget early details, which is exactly what janitor+ sells. The help center does not mention daily message caps.

The iPhone app "Janitor: Interactive Stories" is rated 18+ and the Android app, still marked beta, is rated Mature 17+. Both start in Safe Mode: NSFW bots are hidden and the model writes SFW replies until you switch adult content on in your account settings on the website. App subscriptions are billed and cancelled through Apple or Google; the Router is web only.

On the web, payments go through Stripe and cancelling happens in Settings, Billing, Manage Subscription; the plan runs to the end of the paid period. Refunds are generally not given. The Terms also name a Cyprus company, Dulova Investments Limited, as a possible charging entity; no statement descriptor is published.

To delete the account you go to Settings, Security, Delete account and confirm a 6-digit email code; support cannot do it for you. The help center calls deletion permanent, while the Privacy Policy describes a grace period during which you can restore the account. Router credits are lost on deletion. The Privacy Policy lists chats among collected data and research to improve the AI among its purposes, without a separate training switch.

Pick it if you want free, text-only roleplay with a very large bot catalog, and you are fine paying later for longer memory or bringing your own model.

Skip it if you want pictures, voice or calls, if you want a curated catalog without fandom and family-drama bots, or if you need a polished app with adult content on by default.
