Promptchan review: a picture and video generator that also chats

We opened Promptchan from a US connection, logged out, and went through the homepage, the plans page, the image and video controls, the companion catalog and the legal pages. Then we tried to sign up with a disposable email address. The form answered: "Sorry, we do not support registrations from this email provider." The other options were Google and Apple sign-in, so we stopped there.

The chat still opens for guests. In two separate sessions we sent a short, non-sexual first message. Each reply arrived in about three seconds and ran to roughly 20 words, and each time our second message brought up a "Sign Up to Keep Chatting" window. Neither reply picked up the name or favorite food we mentioned, and the sessions ended before we could ask about them again. We did not generate images, buy Gems or see the account settings.

Promptchan is run by VisionAI Labs Limited in Dublin, Ireland. At its core is a prompt-based generator: you describe a scene, pick a style (photo-realistic, anime, illustration and others), a pose, a filter and an expression, then adjust the result with Tweak or turn it into a short clip. The companion chat uses the same characters, so you can ask a companion for a picture of the scene you are in.

A public feed shows other users' images, and Clone copies their prompt and settings into your generator. That cuts both ways: under the terms, anything you make in public mode is licensed to Promptchan and to every other user.

Plans are monthly: Plus $14.99, Premium $23.99, Pro $33.99 (table above). Each includes a Gem allowance, and Gems are what every generation spends. The plan decides which tools you get; Gems decide how much you can make with them.

The main site publishes only two Gem prices: 1 per voice message and 2 per voice call. The API guide, which uses the website's models, lists 1 Gem for a basic image and 15 to animate an image into video. With default settings the guest generator showed 2 Gems per image and 28 per video, and the chat buttons showed 4 and 22. Gem packs are sold after sign-in, at half price for subscribers; pack prices are not public.

Video and custom characters need Pro. If clips are why you are here, plan for Pro plus extra Gems, not the $14.99 entry plan.

A free account gets a daily Gem allowance and some starter chat messages; after those, the chat guide says each message costs "a gem or two". No card is needed. Without an account you get one chat reply per session, and Safe Mode stays on: NSFW content is hidden, and the button to change that leads to the sign-up page.

You can sign up with Google, Apple or email, but not every email provider is accepted. Our disposable address was refused.

The image controls go deeper than most companion apps: style, pose, filter, expression, a negative prompt and character attributes, including an age slider that starts at 18. Video has two models, v4 for motion and v4-voice for lip-synced dialogue with sound, and Extend continues a finished clip. Clips are kept for 24 hours unless you publish them, so download what you want to keep.

On real people, the terms ban content that uses someone's likeness "without obtaining explicit and verifiable consent". That is a consent condition, not a flat ban on images of real people. The moderation policy says prompts, outputs and uploads are scanned automatically, backed by user reports, human moderators and a removal form with a 48-hour response target.

Card subscriptions renew automatically. Crypto payments go through NOWPayments, buy a fixed period and cannot be refunded. You can cancel in account settings and keep access until the period ends. Refunds are possible within 30 days of a charge if you have not made "significant" use of the service, and only after you cancel. The refund policy also covers annual plans, although the US plans page shows only monthly prices. Promptchan does not say what name appears on your bank statement.

The privacy policy (updated October 2, 2026) sets no fixed retention period for account data. It keeps an analytics visitor ID for 13 months and uses Google Analytics and Google Ads. The terms say you can terminate your account yourself; without an account we could not check that flow.

Pick it if you mainly want to make images and short videos of characters, you like fine control over style and pose, and you are fine paying per generation on top of a plan.

Skip it if you want a chat-first companion, need to know your monthly bill in advance, or want an app from the App Store or Google Play. The plans page says "Web, iOS and Android", but we found no Promptchan app in either US store.
