Xoul AI review: free daily energy, $7-$28 plans and strict content rules

Xoul AI is a roleplay platform from Xoul Inc. in San Francisco. You chat with community-made characters, called xouls, or play prepared scenarios where several characters and a narrator react to you. You can build your own characters and worlds and share them in the public catalog.

It is a storytelling app, not an adult chat service. The terms ban sexually explicit content everywhere, and the Safety tab keeps public bots away from minors, explicit profile pictures and real people. A site banner during our visit promoted Creamify, a separate "uncensored" image platform, which sits oddly next to those rules.

Chat runs on energy. The free plan gives you 100 energy a day, and the paid plans are Green at $7 a month, Purple at $14 and Gold at $28. Yearly billing works out to $72, $132 and $264. Purple is the first plan with unlimited chat on every model, so it is the one the paywall pushes, with a one-week trial.

Images, video, voice messages and calls use a second currency, cells. Plans include a monthly cell allowance that does not roll over; bought cells never expire. All purchases are non-refundable under the terms.

The free tier is usable on its own. Your energy refills 24 hours after you start a session, you can watch up to 20 ads a day for more, and a login streak adds small bonuses. Free accounts get 10 regenerations per reply and base memory, plus 50 cells once to try media.

We signed up on 23 October 2026 with a disposable email. Registration asked for a name, gender and username and two ticks, one confirming you are 18 or older. There was no CAPTCHA and no ID check.

We played a historical-romance scenario. Replies began streaming within 1-3 seconds and finished in 7-15 seconds, usually more than 100 words with stage directions. In message 8 the character correctly recalled the name and favourite dish we gave in message 1. The free energy ran out on message 40, when a subscribe window appeared. We then deleted the account from Settings by typing a confirmation phrase; it took effect immediately.

The terms limit Xoul to users 18 and over and require every character to be, and look like, an adult. The privacy policy, last updated in May 2024, adds that a parent or guardian may consent to a minor's use, which contradicts the terms. The App Store lists the app as 18+.

The support FAQ says your chats are private and conversation data is not sold. The privacy policy allows third-party tracking for analytics and ads, and Xoul keeps a perpetual licence to anything you publish. After deletion some data may be kept for up to 30 days, according to the deletion page.

The public catalog is the weak spot. As a logged-out visitor we were shown a "sister" road-trip story and a "college" seatmate at the top, plus many fan-fiction characters from films, comics and anime.

Pick Xoul AI if you want long, story-driven roleplay, a real free tier and cheap paid plans in USD. It also suits romance chats without explicit content.

Skip it if you want NSFW chat or image generation, or if you want a catalog without fan-fiction and campus or family storylines; a single-companion app gives you more control.
