Character AI alternative no filter: adult-only platforms compared

Character.AI is not built for adults who want 18+ roleplay, and it says so in writing. Its Terms of Service (last updated August 27, 2025) let people register from age 13, or 16 in the EEA and UK, and prohibit content that "is obscene or pornographic". Its Community Guidelines add that users under 18 "interact with an age-appropriate model". A platform that serves minors has every reason to keep a strict filter, and adults who want mature fiction should use a service built only for adults.

The four platforms below restrict access to adults in their own terms and allow adult content between fictional adult characters.

• Janitor AI. The closest format to Character.AI: millions of community-written bots, a free built-in model (JLLM) with unlimited chats, and a Limitless tag for characters with adult themes. The help center restricts the service to users over 18 and bans minor-coded characters under a zero-tolerance policy.
• Chub AI (https://chub.ai/). For people who liked building their own characters: a hub of user-written character cards, lorebooks and presets, with Chub's own models or a connection to another provider. The terms state the service is for users 18 and over and that private chats are not used to train AI models. Official site: chub.ai.
• Kindroid (https://kindroid.ai/). One persistent companion instead of a library, with long-term memory and voice and video calls. The moderation guidelines permit NSFW content for adults, and free users can be asked to verify age through Yoti. Prices appear only at checkout. Official site: kindroid.ai.
• GirlfriendGPT. A large community library with a free tier to try first; the terms give an example of about 10 to 20 messages in total. The Blocked Content Policy bans content resembling minors and impersonation of real people. Paid prices are shown only after sign-in.

Two lines in the official documents settle it. The terms list content that "is obscene or pornographic" among prohibited uses, and the community guidelines name "pornographic content, and nudity" as prohibited under their sexual content standards. The same guidelines say Character.AI filters content "through both automated moderation and human review".

Because the platform accepts users from 13, the filter is there to protect users under 18. Trying to talk a Character.AI bot past it breaks the terms, and this page does not cover ways around it. The honest route for an adult is a service whose terms are written for adults from the start.

No legitimate service is rule-free. Every platform on this page allows adult content between fictional adult characters, and every one of them bans content involving or resembling minors. Most also ban deepfakes and impersonation of real people. "No filter" here means adult themes are permitted by design, not that anything goes. A service that advertises zero rules is a reason for caution, not a feature.

Janitor AI checks age through k-ID in Australia, Brazil and the UK, and its privacy policy lists chats among collected data without a training switch. Chub AI's terms keep private chats out of training. Kindroid can ask for a Yoti age check and says it does not sell or share data. GirlfriendGPT relies on self-declared age and takes a broad, perpetual license to content you submit.
