Status on 31 October 2026: on 25 July 2026 the official @grok account on X said the animated Companions are being retired in favour of regular Grok chat (replies on that account are written by Grok). The App Store description stopped mentioning Companions in September 2026, while Grok's docs still describe them as iPhone-only.

Grok Companions are animated 3D characters inside the Grok app for iPhone. App Store release notes introduced Ani and Rudi on 15 July 2025; Valentine followed later that month and Mika in October 2025, according to Grok's official X accounts. Grok's docs say Companions are available in the iPhone app only.

Adult content and age rules
Grok's terms say that, depending on the features you choose, replies may include coarse language, crude humor, sexual situations or violence. The acceptable use policy bans sexualising children, nudifying real people and pornographic depictions of real people. No official page describes an NSFW or “spicy” setting for Companions; July 2026 release notes say mature voices are labelled 18+ in settings.
The terms require users to be at least 13, with a parent or guardian's permission from 13 to 17. The App Store rates Grok 16+ and Google Play rates it Teen. Grok uses age assurance for users in Australia; no official page describes ID checks for Companions in the US.
What Grok Companions does with your chats
Chats are saved to your history unless Private Chat is on. Content may be used to train models unless you turn off “Improve the model” in Settings, Data Controls; Private Chat content is not used for training. Deleted chats and accounts are removed within 30 days unless kept for legal, compliance or safety reasons, and a limited number of authorised staff may review conversations. Privacy policy ↗
